A Women's Real Birthright, Motherhood as a Divine Calling

I see motherhood differently than most.

Three people in a tent-like room: a photographer adjusts a pregnant woman’s white lace dress while a man stands behind her, eyes closed.

While the world would say this is a common drudgery put upon less than ambitious women as a way to keep them shackled to the demands of others. I view it as the most divine calling in all of humankind.

It is the highest and holiest of services.

It is a calling that demands admiration, reverence, and honor.

But where does that leave women without children? Where is their admiration and praise in this holy order of womanhood?

This is where my view of motherhood differs even more. I belive the word 'mother' has layers of meaning. It's not just assosiated with maternity, though that act of strength and sacrifice must always be revered. The term 'mother' is the essence of womanhood, one I see played out spectacularly in the best women I know, some of whom do not have children.

These mother figures express unfathomable kindness to the children in their lives giving them attention, council, protection, love, praise, correction, and guidance. These women show compassion on the animals they adopt, the businesses they create, the family they adore, and the communities they protect.

This gift of being a woman is only magnified in its greatness when we recognize that the calling of 'motherhood' is echoed in the loving hearts of all women.

When I asked Amanda if she had any new insights during this pregnancy, anything that was going to shape how she would behave as mother, she said no.

"I've been doing this with my nieces and nephews since they were born. I love them and treat them as if they were my children. It's like I've had years of practice."

Amanda has had a mother's roll the majority of her life. It's shaped how she runs her business, Vitality in Horseheads. It's molded her friendships into dependable, life long connections that have depth and substance. Amanda's inherent care has seen her love her family, cherish her pets, and have compassion and understanding that is utterly unique.

My friend has waited a long time for this precious baby she is now carrying.

She's faced heartbreak and loss that all too many women are familiar.

But just like the divine mother she is, she moves forward with her heart open all the wider with love and endless nurturing as her standard.

Amanda has always been a devoted mother, now she gets to love a new precious soul with all her skills and divinely appointed intuition.

Women, may we remember what we all are- mothers.

Nurturers

Creators

Builders

Growers of goodness

This is our birthright.
